Copperleaf Sewing Bee

Sewing for Smiles

Sewing machines were humming in the clubhouse as twenty-five Copperleaf ladies were on a mission to make 120 children’s pillowcases and 55 sun dresses for little girls. The Copperleaf Charitable Foundation provided the funds for the fabrics.

Sixty of the pillowcases went to the Golisano Children’s Hospital Pediatric Oncology Ward. The other sixty pillowcases, new pillows and sundresses were taken to a local migrant camp. It was a day of raw emotions for representatives from Copperleaf as they witnessed the joy on the children’s faces as they received the gifts and the stark reality of the standard of living of the migrant workers and their families.

These families were in the area to pick and package the tomato crop. The children move from one school district to another as their parents follow the harvests. The ladies who participated in the Sewing Bee can be assured that the fruits of their efforts were well received and appreciated.
